I watched a Russian rock-opera Juno and Avos, written by Andrej Vozněsenskij and composed by Alexej Rybnikov. Let me cite its story from Amazon.com, DVD
This plot is fiction based on a true story. Rezanov and Conchita's love,Rezanov's death and Conchita's taking a vow seem to be true.
But important is that from this story, the fact Rezanov was dispatched to Japan in order to call for Russo-Japanese commerce while Japan permitted it only to China and Netherland.
Rezanov, after refused the demand, got angry with Japan, ordered two subordinate captains attack Japan, and they attacked Sakhalin and Etorof island, killed some people: Juno and Avos were the name of the ships used for the attack.
This fact is completely concealed in this opera. Apart from its value as an art, we Japanese would not like this incomplete history of Rezanov circulate all over the world.
I p199 -- "corporate counsel" が「産業カウンセラー」 → 正しくは「社内弁護士」
I p232 -- "Down the hall, Atkinson heard the loud cheer"が「ホールの反対側にいたアトキンソンは」→正しくは「廊下の向こう側にいた」 この誤訳は2005年の「iCon」にもある。
I p340 -- "I haven’t got any sort of odd chip on my shoulder"が「変なチップなんて、僕の肩には埋め込まれていないよ」→正しくは「別に喧嘩を売ってるわけじゃない」 ちなみにこの表現は「iCon」にも２箇所出てきていますが、訳者は２回とも誤訳しています。（この訳者はイディオムが弱点か？）
II p96 -- "But to me, nothing could be further from the meaning of design"が「でも僕にとっては、デザインの意義を超えるものなんて考えられない」→正しくは、「でもそれはデザインの意味を全く取り違えている」 この誤訳は「iCon」にもある。（訳者のブログにも掲載されているようで、「全世界に誤訳を発表してマゾか？」との声もあり）

p7 『...など終わったことしか喜ぶべきものがなかったとして、この10年間を「地獄の10年」と表現した』 「など終わったことしか喜ぶべきものがなかった」→日本語として意味不明です。 あと、「the Decade from Hell」を「地獄の10年」と直訳していますが、「from hell」は「最悪の」という程度の意味でしょう。ドラマ等で"boyfriend from hell"なんて言い方よく聞きますが、ご存じないのだろうか？
p11 『まわりの人を巻き込めなければイノベーションに意味はない』 原文は「innovation means nothing if you can’t get people excited about it」 で、「まわりの」とか「巻き込む」とか原文に一切書いてない。「人を楽しませなければ～」という意味。
p28 『なぜジョブズなのかという質問には、回答者の３分の２近く（61%）が「違いを生み出した人だから」』 新聞やニュース等でよく出てくる言い回し「make a difference」を直訳しているが、正しくは「世界を変える」とか「偉業を成し遂げる」という意味。
p64 『問題は、本社と人事部があり』 原文は「The trouble is you have human resource departments and headhunters」なので、「ヘッドハンター」を「本社」と訳しており完全な誤訳。
p75 『ハラリはプリンストン大学で物理と半導体を学び、ソリッドステート大学で博士号を取得する』 原文は「earned a Ph.D. in solid-state science from Princeton, where he studied physics and semiconductors」なので、「プリンストンで半導体の博士号を取得」が正しい。常識で考えて「ソリッドステート大学」なんて大学あるわけないでしょう。
